The 5th of August 2021 saw a very exciting experience for pupils and students of Pure City International School as they fully participated in voting exercise to elect their Senior Boys’ and Girls’ prefects for the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19.
As an institution that is set to train students to be ready play critical roles in society as good citizens, this election is another of the many efforts by the school to develop leadership skills and create a sense of democratic awareness among pupils and students and prepare them for future events at any level.
After the voting concluded, total ballot cast was 184 for both the Boys’ and Girls’ Prefects.
Master Solomon Asante and Ms Nana Oye Takyiwaa emerged winners with 55.97% (103) and 58.79% (107) of the total votes respectively. And following the official declarations by the school’s Electoral Committee, Master Solomon Asante and Ms Nana Oye Takyiwaa are now the Boys’ and Girls’ Prefects of Pure City International School for the next academic season.

Total Vote Cast- 184
BOYS’ PREFECT
Solomon Asante – 103 (55.97%)
Godwin Vudu – 81 (44.02%)
GIRLS’ PREFECT
Nana Oye Takyiwaa – 107 (58.79%)
Farida Saaka – 75 (41.2 %)
At the end of every election, there must surely emerge winners and losers, but in this case, as everyone was assured by Mr Akandeiba, the acting Presiding Officer, all the participants will have their work cut out for them. In line with that, Ms Farida Saaka and Mr Vudu Godwin automatically become assistant prefects at the respective positions they contested for..
Other appointed representatives of the student body include Jessica Owusu (Compound Prefect), Nana Kyere Yeboah (Entertainment Prefect), Afeku Jerry Elikplim (Sports Prefect), Bartholomew Yampuyeet (Llibrary Prefect) and Pearl Apochi (Academic Prefect) amongst others.
From the time of selecting these students, to the campaigning processes leading to secret voting, and ballot counting to final announcement, pupils and students were given an opportunity to fully experience a free and fair election.
The entire experience will not only prepare their minds for future endeavours, but have also etched in their minds that sense of a right of choice.
